What I learned from living in Utah

I have loved living in Utah!!! I have only been gone a week and I miss it so much. When we first found out we were moving to Salt Lake City, I cried and cried and cried. I mean who lives in Utah, what is in Utah (other than Mormons?!), I was not excited about our PCS AT ALL. Wow- was I wrong (I mean there are a lot of Mormons.... but they are awesome and I love them!)!! The 4 years that we were in Utah I think will be some of the best of my life. We grew our family there and made amazing friends, we traveled to so many amazing places and had a blast! While we were in Utah I started a list of things that I learned while living there, I hope you enjoy. :)
I mean... this was my view leaving our neighborhood, how do you NOT love this!??

1. What fry sauce is (its AMAZING!).
2. Cafe Rio is better than Costa Vida (but I still like Chipotle better).
3. Running red lights is the norm.... even if you do it in front of a cop, they don't care.
4. So is blocking the intersection..
5. Really Utah just has bad drivers!
6. I know what DI, MHE, RS, wards, callings and many other mormon terms are.
7. The missionaries will come to your house (several times) but they are very sweet.
8. Schools don't close for 9 inches of snow.
9. Driving on Antelope is way better on Sunday and so is going to Costco.
10. The Great Salt Lake really isn't that "great", it actually smells pretty bad and has a lot of flies.
11. The inversion is the worst!
12. I really don't like In and Out Burger.
13. You can only get "strong beer" on base.
14. There is always something to do or see. If you get bored here it is your own fault.
15. Arches National Park is my favorite, I love the red rocks!
16. You can not find good Chinese food, you might as well go to Panda Express (actually the Indian and Thai is not that great either).
17. People from Utah like to say, "and I was all....." (i.e. "and I was all, it is too cold to go swimming.") I actually think they sound a little bit Canadian.
18. The grid system is not for outsiders. It took me a good couple of weeks to figure out what the "street" was to put in the GPS system.
19. Don't go to Crown Burger after General Conference. People are parking on the street because the lot is full! But do go to Crown Burger any other time because it is amazing (and get the fry sauce!).
20. DI is the best thrift store ever (but they close early on Mondays for FHE).
21. Nobody uses Craig's List, everybody uses KSL (and you can find some pretty good stuff on there).
22. The News station will always find a way to relate a national story back to Utah (i.e. There was an Earthquake in California, lets interview people who are from Utah and then live there now. Ok, now lets talk about Utah's risk for an earthquake).
23. Utah is supposed to have a big earthquake sometime in the next 50 years.
24. Everyone is an Eagle Scout.
25. Boy scouts always get lost in canyons and need rescued, this will frequently make it on the evening news.
26. They have a lot of parks and snow cone stands in the summer.
27. "oh my heck!" is pretty common and now part of my vocabulary.
28. Fireworks are not just for the 4th of July, people shoot them off on Christmas too and Founders day and New Year's Eve.
29. When you ask for sangria, the waiter will not know what you are talking about and instead see if you want "sparkling water"...... umm NO!?
30. There are 3 teams.... USU, Utah "the U" or BYU, pick one.
31. On Sundays the NFL highlights are on players in the NFL with ties to Utah and not on any specific team.
32. Only in Utah will a Starbucks close for a soda shop (with some pretty good cookies).
33. Milkshakes are eaten with spoons, this is NOT a milkshake!
34. Having many children is the norm.

So that was my running list.....I learned many other things about myself as well and feel like I really grew as a person. I REALLY loved our time in Utah and can see why so many people call it home. I mean who knows, we may end up there again someday (or at least try to get stationed there again!).

Utah is great, life is good.
